Executive Positions

  • 2004-2005 Senior Returning Officer, Durham Students' Union
    • responsible for running Students' Union elections and referenda in a strictly impartial way.
  • 2004-2005 Sub-Editor(IT), Palatinate
    • responsible for maintaing IT resources for the Durham Student Newspaper Palatinate, including website and main computer resources used for typesetting etc.
  • 2003-2004 Freedom of Information Officer, Durham Students' Union
    • responsible for receiving and fulfilling requests for information by members of the Union, including checking the status of restricted minutes and maintaining an archive of committee documents.
  • 2003-2005 Webmaster, Collingwood College Junior Common Room
    • Responsible for JCR website maintenance, including maintaining discussion fora for applicants, developing new online systems, maintaining an online voting system, and restructuring the position.
  • 2003-2004 BUSA Officer, Durham University Archery Club
    • Responsible for organising a bid to host a national archery competition, including arranging judges, booking of shooting and changing facilities, negotiation with Athletic Union and national officials for funding, and liaising with other university archery clubs.
  • 2002-2003 Treasurer, Durham University Archery Club
    • Responsible for managing the finances of a medium sized-club (approximately 100 members), including book-keeping, maintenance of a cash float, completing grant request forms, and investigating new sources of revenue.
    • Also arranged safety training courses for senior club members, assisted heavily in recruitment, and ran archery sessions as a fully qualified Community Sports Leader.
  • 2002-2003 Webmaster, Durham University Archery Club
    • Responsible for maintenance of an up-to-date web presence for Durham University Archery Club, including regular maintenance and updating, coding of standards-complaint HTML, XHTML and CSS, and a full redesign of the website.
  • January-April 2002 Captain, Collingwood College Intercollegiate Challenge Team
    • Responsible for organising fixtures and booking rooms for competitions.

Committee Positions

  • 2003-2005 Member, DSU Steering Committee
    • Responsible for assisting with organisation of major Union business, including agendas and minutes for meetings, elections including cross-campus ballots, and providing technical assistance on democracy-related matters to members of the Union.
  • 2003 DSU Officer, Collingwood College JCR
    • Responsible for representing Collingwood College to Durham Student's Union (resigned due to taking up incompatible Steering post, above)
  • 2003-2005 Undergraduate Representative, Collingwood College Council
    • Responsible for providing undergraduate input to the governing body of Collingwood College.
  • 2003-2005 Undergraduate Representative, Durham University IT Strategy Committee
    • Responsible for ensuring undergraduate representation with respect to provision of computing resources throughout the university, including long-term planning and resource allocation.
  • 2002-2003 Ordinary Member, Durham Student's Union Finance Committee (2003 Vice Chair)
    • Responsible for assisting in the financial decision-making of Durham Student's Union, including capital expenditure, student society budget-setting, internal distribution of available funds, and staffing decisions. (resigned due to taking up incompatible Steering post, above)
  • 2002-2004 Undergraduate Representative, Senate Advisory Panel on Ceremonies and Honorary Degrees (formerly Ceremonies and Honorary Degrees Committee)
    • Responsible for representing undergraudate opinion with regards to the cermonial aspects of university life, such as matriculation and congregation (graduation) ceremonies, and for assisting in the selection of honorary graduands.
  • 2001-2005 Student Observer, Department of Physics Board of Studies
    • Responsible for passing on student opinion about undergraduate tuition in the Department at the highest level of departmental decision making, and feeding back on decisions made to students.

    • Responsible for passing on student opinion about undergraduate tuition in the Department
